Pet obesity has become an epidemic in the US (mirroring the same problem in people). Over 50% of household pets are considered overweight or obese. Obesity can lead to serious health problems such as diabetes, arthritis and other orthopedic issues. While some medical conditions can predispose to obesity, the usual culprit is overfeeding and under-exercising pets. This means that obesity is both preventable and reversible. If your pet is overweight, your vet can work with you to develop a feeding and exercise plan to get the pounds off.
